- WHY DO I NEED TO TRAIN FOR TREKKING?
Training for an exercise as simple as walking might seem like overkill to some. After all, walking is a very natural and normal thing for your body to do. However, few of us have the leisure time to walk for 6-16 hours, for multiple days on end as will be required on most treks. Add altitude, difficult terrain, unknown weather conditions and carrying a pack and you'll start to understand that trekking is quite different to 'just walking'. Even if you consider yourself fit, proficiency and strength in one form of exercise does not equal proficiency and strength in all. So training for trekking is about being as specific as you can be to mimic and prepare for the demands of your trek. The aim is to prevent injury, muscle fatigue and ultimate exhaustion on your trek.
HOW DO YOU TRAIN FOR TREKKING?
Our training programs focus on three modes of strength, cardio vascular and sport specific (hiking). Strength - to build your pack carrying ability, improve your balance and stability, prepare your legs for long days. Cardio Vascular - aerobic capacity and endurance for steep terrain, carrying loaded backpacks and meet the demands of limited oxygen. Sport Specific - 'Event training', hiking in a real environment, multiple hours of steep terrain and testing your strength and cardio.
WHEN SHOULD I START TRAINING MY TREK?
I often get approach by people with 4 weeks to go before their trek, which simply isn't enough time to see physiological adaptions from any type of training. Adaptions in cardiovascular fitness can take 6 - 8 weeks of regular training, and strength gains require even longer (8 -12 weeks). In my experience, results are achieved with atleast 12 weeks of training. If you have more time that's even better!
- WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
The programs uses very basic equipment that can be found in any gym. If you plan to carry out the training at home you’ll need a solid step or a bench (about 40-50cm high), dumbbells, rubber barbell plate. We also recommend a timer (stopwatch or phone to time your sessions), Heart Rate Monitor (for aerobic sessions) and a backpack.
The Advanced Mountain Training Guide requires the addition of a barbell.
WHAT PROGRAM IS FOR ME?
Regardless of the type of trek you are attempting you should start on the 12 week base program 'Trekking Success Training Guide'. It has been designed for intermediate treks like Mt Kilimanjaro, Everest Base Camp, Annapurna Circuit, Inca Trail.
Once you complete the base program you can progress to the Peak Program 'Advanced Mountain Training Guide'. This is ideal for people that have more than 12 weeks before their trek and is still suitable for those attempting intermediate treks. If you are attempting a challenging trek at altitude like everest high passes or trekking peaks like Mera Peak, Island Peak, Mont Blanc it is recommended that you complete the Base and Peak Programs to be in peak fitness prior to your trek.

I HAVE NEVER TRAINED BEFORE, CAN I USE THIS PROGRAM?
The Trekking Success Training Guide requires no previous training experience. The exercises are basic and easy to do, although some can be awkward the first time around. Be patient, carefully study the exercise descriptions and photos and use lighter weights.
The Advanced Mountain Training Guide requires you to have completed the Trekking Success Training Guide.
We highly recommend atleast for the first few weeks that you seek exercise instruction from a local coach or personal trainer to ensure you’re performing the exercises in correct form. (Believe me, the trainer will be relieved to have a 12 week program handed to them).
WHY DO I NEED TO COMPLETE THE TREKKING SUCCESS TRAINING GUIDE FIRST?
The Trekking Success Training Guide (Weeks 1-12) sets the standard for trekking fitness and gives you a strong base to take your training to the next level which involves more training sessions, more reps, increased resistance and longer hiking sessions.
Even if you consider yourself very fit, proficiency and strength in one form of exercise does not equal proficiency and strength in all. To build endurance for the mountains, hours of specific low intensity training and aerobic conditioning must come first. Missing this core component of training may lead to injury and fatigue.
The Advanced Mountain Guide (Weeks 13-24) builds on the base program and focuses on enhancing your work capacity and strength for the challenges that come with the terrain and altitude of a challenging trek.

- HOW IS THE PROGRAM DELIVERED?
You’ll receive your training program immediately after purchase via email.
Once received, immediately download and save your training program to your laptop/computer as the link will expire.You will only be able to download the file three times from the email link; after that you will not be able to download again.
For most computers you should be able to do either of the following: Go to the menu tab, click ‘file’ and ‘save as’. Save to your desktop.
If you experience problems downloading due to outdated computers or personal preference settings and are unable to change your settings to successfully download, please try another browser (such as Firefox, Safari, IE, Chrome or Opera) to download.
I DIDN'T RECEIVE A CONFIRMATION EMAIL.
There could be a few reasons.
